The Cocoon nurtures the metamorphic emergence of creativity and songwriting. Founded in 2016, this 1200 sq ft open-concept room is equipped with a custom built analog recording console, Sonor drumkit, Kawaii upright piano, guitars, amps, congas and percussion; and plenty of other gear to pick up and get creative. Corey Zack – Owner/Engineer
Corey Zack is an innovative audio engineer, producer, and creative builder based in Jersey City, NJ, best known as the founder and owner of Cocoon Recording Studio — a boutique recording space designed to foster artistic exploration and sonic excellence. At Cocoon, Corey has nurtured hundreds of projects across genres, earning recognition in the local music community and beyond for his hands-on approach to capturing and shaping sound. His work extends into composition as well, having contributed to the award-winning indie film Mnemophrenia and producing, recording, and mixing a diverse slate of artists and releases.
Drawing on a background in carpentry and technical direction, Corey blends technical expertise with artistic sensibility to create custom studio environments that are as functional as they are inspiring. He consults with fellow engineers and creatives on studio design, wiring, and acoustics, and is widely known for developing unique architectural and acoustic innovations such as The Oven and Nest Diffuser — as well as custom installations like Mosstopia, immersive moss walls that transform the visual and sonic space. As an educator and mentor, Corey hosts audio workshops, supports emerging engineers, and is currently writing a book on his craft. Beyond music, he’s helped build and advise grassroots ventures including Kilhaney’s Pickles and Lifecap Farms, bringing his problem-solving ethos to creative entrepreneurship.

Tabitha Booth – Artistic Director
Veteran scenic artist and set builder, Tabitha Booth’s work has been credited on major event productions, such as: Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren and Victoria Secret Fashion Shows 2024; MTV Video Music Awards 2023; Hulu, Sotheby’s, as well as indie film and theatre. Serving as Artistic Director to The Cocoon, Tabitha Booth infuses her set design skills into live music performances of her own and music videos for industry clientele.
The Signatures
A feast for the ears!
Cocoon’s in-house composing team, The Signatures, is a film scoring consortium of two musical masterminds, Corey Zack and Steve Stratvert. Their work can be heard on the award-winning indie cerebral film, Mnemophrenia, which, in 2018, received Boston Film Awards’ Best Picture.

in 2024 the Cocoon team created something special…..a new immersive experience to enjoy while recording in The Cocoon! Tune into a dystopian world built from moss, recording console parts, and wood. Narrated by lecturing scientist and flutist Paula Croxson, and The Cocoon’s in-house scoring entity, The Signatures. Mosstopia pushes the envelope of acoustics, scenic design, prop modeling, and storytelling woven in and out of a visual texture of primal rhythms.
